[New publication] Study of Freshwater Ecosystem Services in Croatia

Mar 18, 2015

The Study of Freshwater Ecosystem Services in Croatia should provide information about the importance of freshwater ecosystems to society in Croatia, based not only on their biodiversity, but also on other benefits (ecosystem services) that they provide to society – drinking water, wood, fish, game animals, flood protection, nutrient and carbon cycle stabilization, sediment retention, tourism, and art inspiration.

The Study is focused on one of the most vulnerable ecosystem – floodplains, and has been supported with a grant from the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and UNDP within the framework of the project National Biodiversity Planning to Support the Implementation of the CBD 2011-2020 Strategic Plan in Croatia (2012-2014).

The Ministry of Environmental and Nature Protection (MENP), Nature Protection Directorate, is the government institution responsible for the implementation of the project. The main implementing partner of the Ministry is the State Institute for Nature Protection.
