Positive energy travels East: Cooperation between Croatian experts and colleagues from Eastern countries in the field of energy efficiencyJul 14, 2015
It has been ten years since the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) with the grant from the Global Environment Facility (GEF) began working with Croatian institutions and experts on the project “Energy Efficiency in the building sector in Croatia“.
Croatian experience and the results of decades of work on increasing energy efficiency and systematic energy management in buildings are highlighted as an example of successful practice and they attract attention and interest of colleagues in other countries in Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
On the recently completed study visit of delegations from Turkmenistan and Russia who came to learn from Croatian experts and colleagues, an energy management information system, commonly known as EMIS has raised a great interest.
A great interest in exchanging experiences on energy efficiency
This is not the first study visit with the theme of energy efficiency: previous years we have already organized similar study visits and welcomed the delegation of Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Russia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, and the ISGE system was transferred to the pilot projects in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, and soon it will be in Romania.
Since 2005, a shift in Croatia has been significantly visible: regulations for energy efficiency that are aligned with EU legislation were adopted and implemented, there is a fund that with about HRK 200 million a year finances the implementation of measures and action plans for energy efficiency.
Also, on public buildings energy certificates are increasingly visible, per year, hundreds of energy audits are carried out in order to identify measures for the bigger efficiency of energy use, also public calls and competitions for financing energy reconstruction of houses, buildings, public buildings and others are being published.
EMIS is included in the new report of the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) from 2015 on the list of the best global practices in energy efficiency!
We believe that the Croatian experience as well as the interest of many countries, with the help of UNDP network and cooperation mechanism called the East-to-East can be a good example of partnership development cooperation and the transfer of knowledge of Croatian experts into the world!
