Speech by UNDP Resident Representative: Opening of St. Anthony's Channel Trail
Speech by UNDP Resident Representative Louisa Vinton at opening of scenic coastal trail
Poštovani gospodine župane
Poštovani gospodine gradonačelniče
Dame i gospodo
On behalf of the United Nations Development Programme, it's a great pleasure to be here today in Sibenik to mark the opening of this majestic seaside walking trail.
Let me start by congratulating the County and its partners on the completion of this project, which provides new opportunities for residents and tourists alike to enjoy the spectacular natural beauty and unique maritime history of St. Anthony’s Channel.
UNDP is proud to have helped in the very beginning to get this project started.
Three years ago, through our COAST project, UNDP prepared the topographic maps, the design concept, and the detailed blueprints needed to translate the idea of a tourist walking trail into a viable construction plan.
This early investment, worth altogether around €60,000, was crucial in securing more than twenty times that amount in EU funding to finance the actual construction of the trail.
Our COAST project aimed to promote a “green“ model of development, which stimulates growth by respecting the natural environment, rather than destroying it.
We see this project as an excellent example of how this model can be put into practice.
So we wish both those who live in Sibenik and those who come as visitors a lot of pleasant time in the outdoors discovering – and rediscovering – the natural and historical charms of St. Anthony's Channel.
Hvala na pozornosti
Congratulations and best wishes
